Often referred to as the “sunshine vitamin," Alaskans are most likely aware of the significant effects of Vitamin D – or the lack thereof - upon their health, both physcial and mental. A study (The Role of Vitamin D in Asthma) published in the Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology last September found that supplementing with Vitamin D could help those suffering from asthma. The study indicated that asthmatics living in the harshest winter climates could see the most significant improvement when they supplemented their diets with Vitamin D.
Producer Sarah Gonzales spoke with one of the study’s authors, Dr. Manbir Sandhu to learn more. Dr. Sandhu spoke to us from Port Moody, British Columbia where he practices at Eagle Ridge Hospital in the division of Allergy and Immunology.
